Poison in our water

Drinking water has never had such a bad press as in recent years when we find that much of the water we drink, even that flowing from our taps, contains poison, nitrates and other horrors. Not only tap water but bottled water in plastic has a growing list of polutants in it. The plastic bottle made of PET and other hard plastics breaks down leaving Antimony, a metal in the same group as arsnic, in the water. The longer it sits on the shelf the higher the dose. And what about the plastic bottles? it is estimated there are 3 billion in land fill already! What to do? Well like the growing trend to reuse lunch wrappings and containers, simply pouring water from a tap into a thermous flask or steel flask will keep it fresh and less toxic. At home instead of using the plastic filter jugs buy, in a charity shop, a glass jug, fill from the tap and cover with a piece of unbleached cotton weighed down with glass beads. Those who have gone before knew a thing or two for leaving the jug out releases the chlorine and the water tastes really bright. Besides buying from a charity shop gives a warm glow as you help other, the enviroment and doing your bit to recycle too.
