What is CopperWiki?
From CopperWiki
CopperWiki is an open collaboration platform for people seeking sustainable living choices. It is based on the twin aspects of awareness and choice.
CopperWiki gives us choices for living a healthy, responsible and sustainable life. Most of us are aware of the importance of conscious living and the urgency of making this concept a way of life. The CopperWiki world informs, encourages, and shares the best practices for living responsibly as individuals, community, society, nation and as a planet. It is a fast conductor for information—which otherwise exists piecemeal at various places.
[edit] Purpose of CopperWiki
Now you know what you should keep in mind while writing a CopperWiki article. Also see What not to write in CopperWiki before you start writing. Before you start collecting information for writing/editing an article, you should know the purpose of CopperWiki. I hope the following lines help in giving a clear idea about CopperWiki articles. [edit] Your Local Guide to Conscious Living
CopperWiki will emphasise on local knowledge, local products and practices because by using local products we can directly reduce our carbon footprint.
For eg --Indians should stick to their whole wheat chapatti or parataha and have jowar, bajra or ragi chapattis to have variance in their diet. If they decide to have rye bread to help their system, then not only will it result in more carbon emissions, it might also not be as beneficial to their health.
- CopperWiki platform will strive to be a source of local knowledge (e.g use of ginger, types of ginger in Japan, India, UK)
- It will work towards building a global database of local practices, know-how and usages.
- It will be a platform to share the knowledge base acquired by indigenous and local peoples over hundred of years through direct experience and contact with the environment.
- The local product and practices highlighted on this platform will be a product of keen observation, patience, experimentation, and long term relationship with plants and animals.
- The local wiki will aim at giving the people the required information to enable people to practice conscious living in their local environment.
- It will provide information about how they can you source their choices, how they can make things happen and where can they start.
[edit] What can you do here?
CopperWiki is a collaborative writing project where anybody can search for an article, write a new article and edit an article. While writing or editing an article, a few things should be kept in mind.
[edit] It is an ‘editable’ platform
CopperWiki strives to improve the quality of already existing articles. Anybody can edit any page barring a few exception such as semi protected pages and protected pages. These pages pertain to administration, policy and guidelines of CopperWiki.
It is advisable to discuss the changes and additions you intend to make on the discussion page of the article and make the changes after arriving at a consensus there. Remember to mention the purpose of your edit in an edit summary. This reduces the chances of your changes being reverted.
[edit] CopperWiki articles are based on secondary research
CopperWiki articles are based on secondary research. This is not a place to do primary research. The information collected from secondary sources should be backed by references that can be cross checked. Articles should not be based on opinions and heresay.
[edit] CopperWiki is not is a place to air personal opinions
CopperWiki is not a place to air personal opinions, carrying personal vendettas and agendas. Copperwiki should not be used for personal advertisement.
Authors and editors should realise that it is not a blog and facts mentioned in their articles should be sourced from reputed sites and articles.
[edit] CopperWiki articles aim to be a reference point for conscious living
While selecting the information to write an article or add to an article, ask yourself "Would this information help in creating awareness? Does it affect our physical and mental health, our environment, and our planet? Will it help us evaluate the alternatives and choices available? Would this help a person lead a more ethical life?"
[edit] CopperWiki articles give a complete unbiased overview on the subject
The articles should give a 3600 view on the subject. For example even as the article informs that plastic bags are non biodegradable and thus have a harmful impact on our environment, it should also inform that the carbon footprint of "paper bags" are much higher and than plastic bags and while producing most kinds of paper, non-renewable resources are depleted.
[edit] CopperWiki is a place to practice responsible journalism
CopperWiki intends to help us in our journey to become a more reponsible person. it thus precludes vandalism and anti social behaviour. It is understood that edits and changes made to an article should help in improving the article.
[edit] CopperWiki is a family site
CopperWiki is a place where kids along with adults are welcome to source and add information. In fact, we encourage young children to live an ethical and conscious life.
CopperWiki carries no obscene language, adult photograph, adult matter and adult jokes. Double meaning langauage and profanities has no place on the site. It is therefore an ideal place to allow children to seek information and even write here.
