Call it life imitating art or art imitating life -- Biomimicry is a superb way of doing things. I just wanted to add, however, that its not just been used to creae hi tech products -- many products we use all the time and take pretty much for granted, have been modelled on organisms. For example, Velcro was inspired by the way burrs stuck to fur--the scratchy side of Velcro acts like burrs, the soft side acts like fur. The super-adhesive tape we use, imitates a gecko's skin..there are countless such examples of everyday products that owe their designs to the flora and fauna around us.
