There are a whole lot of ethical issues that Biotechnology throws up that this article has not addressed. Cloning, the artificial creation of cells through the replication of DNA in the lab, is the most controversial of them all. Along with stem cell research, this field has become a veritable minefield for scientists.

Also, the entire world has been debating the health implications of genetically modified foods and the impact they have on naturally found species. Someone recently told me that twenty years ago in Tirupati, one of South India's holiest temples, priests would consecrate a different variety of rice everyday for at least a month before needing to repeat a variety. Today, the advent of GM rice has made this an impossibility. Farmers prefer high-yielding GM varietals over relatively lower yielding traditional rice varieties.
