[edit] how to make the homepage more informative/accessible to new editors?
Although, things are looking better and better; how do we make it easier for people to put in thier entries, considering that we are constrained by MediaWiki's deficiencies? The crazy non-rich text editor is quite a pain for the technically challanged(though a lot of fun for nerds like me).
We need better and more visual help files... a step by step wizard would be great!
[edit] making it easier
I agree Joy. If a box informs the user of the first step or the first couple of strps and then after he successfully completes it another box opens and offers next two simple pointers, he/she might be less intimidated.
Too many points at one go seem to overwehlm many users -- including even our seasoned writers. The palcing of the editing help ( which comes when we open the edt box also needs to be prominently put on the actual page.
The home page could also do with some visuals or graphics according to some of the feedback we have got.
[edit] flash help
i guess a flash based wizard (not necessarily lying within the wiki) could help users a lot. There a few million (beyond the existing 100K) users who may like to be tutored a bit on using this wonderful tool!
